At our church services, all aspects of the service (singing, message, annoucements etc.) are interpreted into sign language to enable the deaf and/or hard-of-hearing to worship our great God with us.
Our Pastor, Exter, is a very skilled interpreter and is assisted by a number of others in our congregation who have learned sign language in order to meet the needs of those in our church family and to reach out to others in our community.
Sign language interpretation is also provided in the youth (junior high and high school teens) class. Additionally, one of our volunteer youth leaders is a skilled interpreter and so the needs of our Deaf and/or Hard-of-Hearing teens are met at most youth events. Adult I class is taught in English and Sign Language simultaneously. For more information about our Bible classes click here.
Sign Language Classes
For a number of years, Pastor Exter has been teaching sign language classes at our church. We welcome you to join the growing group for this.
The first class (in September) will be for beginners to learn the manual alphabet and numbers. After that, both beginners and advanced signers are welcome to join in on the classes. Each class will focus on learning new vocabulary and spend some time playing a game or other fun activity to reinforce the new vocabulary.
The cost is $3 (one time for the year) to help defray the cost of the photocopies (of vocabulary sheets) you will receive during the year.
There is no need to register for the class. Just join others in the church Sanctuary for the classes you are able to attend. You can start attending the classes at any time, but as the year progresses, certain knowledge will be assumed.
